James Walter Loomis

James Walter Loomis was born on a farm near Prairie Groves, Iowa on July 29, 1876. The second born child of Wilson Loomis and Mary Stephenson. He grew up on his parents' farm in Iowa with his 8 siblings, 4 brothers and 4 sisters in a log cabin that Wilson Loomis had built himself.

In 1902 James married Lillie Goodrich, they had a son Cecil (1905) and a daughter Mabel (1907.) They then decided to move to Nebraska in 1910 where they had a second son Lloyd (1912) but before long the family made their way back to Iowa and settled in Washington, Iowa near Osceola where they remained for the rest of James’ life.

James had learned how to farm from his father and devoted his life to his farm work. He took extra special are of the land, soil, and stock in which he sold in large quantities.
On February 1, 1936 James suddenly passed away from cardiac failure leaving behind his wife, 3 children, 2 grandchildren, and 6 of his siblings.
